Love Songs (veldeke)

A project with nine youngsters between 13 and 23 years old.

Addressing the idea of love.

In the 12th century the 'first'’ German-Dutch speaking poet, Hendrik Van Veldeke, wrote 25 love songs. These songs deal with an idealized and somewhat political form of love. Only the texts were saved; we don't know how they were performed.

In 1873 Arthur Rimbaud wrote: "L’amour est à réinventer, on le sait." (As we know, love needs reinventing.)

(LANCELIN, A. and LEMONNIER, M.: Les philosophes et l’amour, EDITIONS J’AILU, Paris, 2008.)

We invented 25 new contemporary love songs blending together philosophy and pop culture.
